CO_MOE070 Moorabool River Catchment

Tuesday 12th January 2016 10:40am Approved
Notes
(1) Looking to the south west from the bridge. There is a lot of erosion of the bank. Livestock have direct access to the river here. There is a rusty metal frame submerged in the river here & with the water at a low level with no flow you can see the discoloration caused to the water & riverbed.
(2) Looking South East from the Bridge.
More erosion & freshly damaged vegetation on the bank next to the bridge.
There is a few rushes in-stream & along the bank. Not much of a canopy only the odd tree here & there. Verge vegetation is pretty much non-existent.
(3) Looking North from the Bridge.
There is a lot of in-stream cover & bank vegetation on this side of the bridge. There is not much verge vegetation on the east side of the river. On the west side the verge vegetation is wider but narrows down as you head upstream.
There appears to be a lot more natural vegetation rather than weeds compared to a few years back. However there are some blackberries starting to regrow on the west side of the river.

Habitat

Refer to diary for photos & notes. Very quiet here today. Could not sight any wildlife or water creatures, only movement is from 3 sheep playing jump through the hole in the fence, no other livestock to be seen anywhere. (Which is unusual) It was a very hot day yesterday so maybe all the animals & water creatures are having a sleep in today.
